I Labs emerged as a spin-off of the Guglielmo Marconi Foundation, carrying forward the legacy of the father of modern telecommunications. With a strong focus on innovation, the team has consistently anticipated technological shifts—most recently, the rise of 5G.
I Labs quickly seized the opportunity presented by 5G, partnering with providers like Open Fiber to help deploy the new infrastructure. The system is designed around:
- A high-capacity fiber optic backbone
- A dense network of microcells for signal distribution
This architecture enables advanced connectivity and efficient data management across urban and rural environments.
Leveraging their experience with Invento®—an electronic registry of above- and below-ground infrastructure—I Labs provide essential tools for 5G deployment:
- Mapping existing infrastructure assets
- Optimizing fiber optic installation routes
- Supporting municipalities and regional governments in adopting 5G
Invento® is already in use by several local authorities across Italy, proving its value in smart city planning and urban digital transformation.
